What are adverbs of frequency? Adverbs of frequency tell us how often something happens. We use them to talk about habits, routines, and repeated actions in everyday life. They answer the question: How often? Common adverbs of frequency At A1 level, the most important adverbs are always (100% of the time), usually (most of the time), often (many times), sometimes (occasionally), rarely (not often), and never (0% of the time). Position with main verbs When a sentence has a main verb like work, eat, study, or play, the adverb of frequency usually comes before the main verb. Example: I usually drink tea. Position with the verb be When the sentence uses am, is, or are, the adverb comes after the verb be. Example: She is always happy.
