What is the Present Simple? The Present Simple is used for habits, routines, repeated actions, and general facts. When we want to say something is not true or ask if something happens, we often use do or does. Why do we use do and does? In English, most main verbs need a helping verb to make questions and negative sentences. Do and does work as auxiliary verbs. They help create the structure, while the main verb stays in its base form. When do we use do and when do we use does? Use do with I, you, we, and they. Use does with he, she, and it.
